SCRATCH BAKERS HEADQUARTERS

With the popularity of their existing outposts necessitating a much larger commercial kitchen, the talented team behind Scratch Bakers decided to open not just that but a brand new, biggest yet, inner-city eatery – Scratch Bakers Headquarters. Tucked down unassuming Graham Street, their newest café will serve all their signature delights including pies, doughnuts, sandwiches and sweet treats known to sell out before midday, alongside a selection of sit down meals and of course, their celebrated Three Beans brew.

With an impressive menu supplementing their famed cabinet fare, if you’re after something a little more interesting than the usual for brunch, try their salted churros – crisped to perfection on the outside yet light and fluffy on the inside – which are served alongside manchego, serrano jamon and a poached egg. For lunch, their vibrant autumn chopped salad with cured salmon, baby carrots, nuts and seeds and  grape fruit dressing, as well as their spanner crab with israeli couscous, garlic, lemon, chilli, parsley and parmesan are both must-try dishes. Or if it’s just a quick sit-down visit, the trio of doughnuts with lemon custard and lemon sugar complement a coffee terrifically – the lemon curd for which is also bottled for sale, with the goal being to sell more preserves in the future.

And furthering their ‘made from scratch’ philosophy, they’ve also created a range of house made sodas which are refreshing and satisfying without being too sweet. The flavourful quenchers come in either lime and cascara berries, cola and lavender, or lemon and mint sparkling ice tea. Or there’re the salubrious fresh juices, decadent smoothies or homemade chocolate milk.

The chic interior, which is spacious and light-drenched, is the handiwork of interior designer and art director Laura Smith whose expertise was also employed for their City Works Depot sites, Scratch Bakers and Three Beans Roastery. Its ample seating and central positioning makes it ideal for meetings or a relaxing daytime break, with the soon to arrive outdoor seating offering a much welcomed respite from the office when the sun’s shining. So whether you have time to sit down and enjoy the newcomer’s ambiance or are just after one of their renowned baked-from-scratch delights, you’d do well to let these praised purveyors lure you to Graham Street.

Open Monday to Friday, 7am till 4pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am till 3pm.
